Flip this situation around a little. If you were lawfully defending yourself with your gun and you had accidentally killed the wrong person, you would be in prison, at least for involuntary manslaughter. The police and the government, on the other hand, can make these mistakes and most people don’t seem to believe that the cop should be in prison. The hypocrisy stinks.

Factor in the fact that most people are trained to believe in the lawful goodness of the police force. “They know what’s best.” 

So many accept this as fact because sometimes, innocents die in the pursuit of “justice.”
