Racism used to be based mainly on race, but especially now, racism is enabled both by the anti-blackness as well as the degradation of culture of PoC. By appropriating and degrading culture, white people have further enforced oppression of PoC by portraying them as backward and uncivilized.

This is why cultural appropriation is a huge deal and is racism. Degrade a culture and you’re only adding to the idea that the people who posses that culture are less superior.

This is also why people who’re more distanced with their culture- PoC who’s families gave up their culture to escape persecution because of their culture- have a tendency to be blind to the cultural racism. When they lose their culture, they also lose the significance- and thus don’t see anything wrong with things like cultural appropriation.
