That’s how I felt/feel whenever I cover my hair. In some ways, it’s a middle finger to the demands made on my body to look a certain way and adhere to a certain standard of feminine beauty.
Of course, that’s not all hijab is to me. But that middle finger is just one aspect of everything it means, at least to me.
